Collection Building and Assessment

The following sites are developed and/or maintained by the ACRL Women & Gender Studies Section Collection Development and Bibliography Committee.

Award Winning and Notable Titles

A collection of links to Web sites that describe award winning books in women and gender studies or provide lists of titles that are in other ways deemed notable.

Checklist to Evaluate Women and Gender Studies Collections

A guide to elements that are important when evaluating a collection's strengths and weaknesses.

Collection Development in Women and Gender Studies: A Bibliography

A brief bibliography of materials relating to issues of women and gender studies collection development. Topics include collection assessment, the history of women and gender studies serials, women and gender studies in the Library of Congress classification, and information access. Most works focus on women and gender studies librarianship within the United States.

Collection Development Policies

A collection of links to academic and research libraries collection development policies for women and gender available on the Web.

Core List of Journals in Women and Gender Studies

Maintained by the ACRL Women & Gender Studies Section’s Collection Development and Bibliography Committee, this annotated list includes selected titles which "...provide a foundation for study and research from a feminist perspective." The list provides a brief description of each journal, as well as bibliographic and indexing information. Titles are suitable for academic library collections.

Electronic Resources Information and Assessment

Provides details about availability, scope, format, cost, and function of numerous women and gender studies journal databases and other electronic resources. Includes relevant links and citations for published reviews.

Film & Video Resources

Offers resources to aid in the purchase and evaluation of films and videos.

Keeping Current with Women and Gender Studies Scholarship

Presents resources useful for tracking topics women and gender studies scholars are discussing, recent publications, and current events in the field, including conferences.

Review Sources

Links to important sources for reviews (some full-text and some only excerpts) of women and gender studies books, with links to a few general-purpose book review Web sites.

Women and Gender Studies Publishers

Most of the publishers listed here are small, independent presses publishing women’s work or titles in women and gender studies.  They are arranged alphabetically by publisher name with contact information and web addresses provided when available.

The following sites, developed and maintained by other Women & Gender Studies Section committees, are also useful for collection development.

Women's Studies Core Books

Developed and maintained by members of the Association of College and Research Libraries' Women & Gender Studies Section, this Web resource is a database of core book titles covering more than forty subject areas (such as, among others, feminist theory, lesbian studies, and transnational feminism). This resource is updated annually.

WGSSLINKS

Provides selected links to women and gender studies Web pages in a variety of subject areas.
