Collection Building and Assessment

The following sites are developed and maintained by the ACRL Women's Studies Section Collection Development committee.

Award Winning and Notable Titles

A collection of links to Web sites that describe award winning books in women's studies or provide lists of titles that are in other ways deemed notable.

Collection Development in Women's Studies: A Bibliography

A brief bibliography of materials relating to issues of women's studies collection development. Topics include collection assessment, the history of women's studies serials, women's studies in the Library of Congress classification, and information access. Most works focus on women's studies librarianship within the United States.

Collection Development Policies

A collection of links to academic and research libraries collection development policies for Women's Studies available on the Web.

Checklist to Evaluate Women's Studies Collections

A guide to elements that are important when evaluating a collection's strengths and weaknesses.

Film & Video Resources

Offers resources to aid in the purchase and evaluation of films and videos.

Keeping Current with Women's Studies Scholarship

Presents resources useful for tracking topics women's studies scholars are discussing, recent publications, and current events in the field, including conferences.

Review Sources

Links to important sources for reviews (some full-text and some only excerpts) of women's studies books, with links to a few general-purpose book review Web sites.

Women's Studies Publishers

These lists are primarily women's studies small presses and include links to scholarly presses that publish in this area.  They are arranged alphabetically by publisher name and provide addresses, phone numbers, and URLs for Web sites when available.

Promotion of Women's Studies Projects and Publications: Suggested Venues for Annoucements

A list of potential resources for promoting Women's Studies-related publications, projects, and awards. Not all venues are suitable for every project, but these are all places to which authors and organizations have successfully sent out announcements of new resources.

The following sites are developed and maintained by other Women's Studies Section committees, but might also be useful for Collection Development.

Women's Studies Core Books

Originally a project of the WSS Collection Development Committee, these are bibliographies intended to help librarians build women's studies collections. The lists include only books currently in print and focus primarily on women in the United States. Each list consists of 20 to 75 titles, and the most important five to ten titles are starred.

Core List of Journals in Women's Studies

The result of work begun in 1998 by the Women's Studies Section Technical Services Committee for use in its evaluation of Web-based, full-text multidisciplinary databases, this core list of journals in women's studies is currently  maintained to assist women's studies librarians and collection development librarians in building women's studies collections. Reviewed annually, the list includes only titles currently being published and suitable for academic libraries.

Electronic Resources Information and Assessment

Details about availability, scope, format, cost, and function of numerous women's studies journal databases and other electoronic resources. Included are relevant links and citations for published reviews.

WSSLINKS

Selective links to women's studies Web pages in a variety of subject areas.
